Keeping me company as I work are my three Italian Greyhounds, Georgie, Pixel and Boo.
All three of them are rescues, and I am an avid supporter of rescue for all breeds.

If you are a rescue volunteer and would like to be one of my rescue beneficiaries, drop me a line. Rescue organizations linked to my site will receive 25% on any commision that comes to me through them. I also donate a great deal of work outright to rescue fundraisers. Need an item to auction or raffle? Ask me. If my scedule allows, it would be an honor to help. I go through life as a frustrated philanthropist without the means to make most of the changes in the world I would like to see, so it does my heart good to make my paintings work as tools for change, however small. As the saying goes, saving the life of one dog will not change the world, but it certainly changes the world for that one dog.

I am a big advocate of good dental care for dogs, and therefore I also want to talk about:

BRUSHING YOUR DOGS TEETH

Many small dog breeds are strongly predisposed to dental problems. It is all too common for dogs to arrive into rescue with advanced peridontal disease, which not only leads to tooth loss, but can cause other life threatening illnesses. I was extremely fortunate in adopting my first two Italian Greyhounds from Tia Resleure of California Italian Greyhound Rescue. Tia is a professional canine dental hygienist and has written what I believe to the definitive article on home dental care for your dog. I strongly encourage everyone checking in here to read it. Tia speaks in depth about both why and how to care for your dog's teeth and gums.

In the interest of educating new adopters -- and anyone else who is concerned about their dogs health -- about how to care for their dogs teeth, I have made this short video. I felt it would be helpful to people to have a 'live' demonstration of how to manage your dog when first teaching him or her to accept brushing, and also to see the proper procedures for reaching all parts of your dogs mouth in action. Before starting, a few words: brushing can help prevent dental problems, but it can't cure them. Your vet can tell you if your dog needs a professional cleaning or other dental work before embarking on a home care regimen. Starting with a clean set of teeth will get you off to a fresh start.

Please note that my dog Gerogie was not always a cooperative subject. All three of my dogs took time to reach their current comfort with toothbrushing. Your persistance will pay off!
